Job Description

  • managing and overseeing Crescent Group’s tax reporting and compliance within all required jurisdictions.
  • developing tax strategies, preparing tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax regulations across the globe, and advising on tax-related matters to optimize Group’s tax position
  • managing tax audits for the Group entities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure full compliance with local tax legislation for U.A.E., Iraq including timely filing of Corporate Tax, Withholding Tax, and VAT returns for all legal entities across the group.
  • Maintain compliance trackers and develop review programs.
  • Facilitate resolution of tax assessments and manage tax audits, fees, and authorize monthly tax payments.
  • Work closely with other departments, including accounting, finance, and legal, to ensure tax planning and compliance.

Tax Advisory and Transaction Support:

  • Advise on tax implications of business transactions and propose solutions to minimize tax exposure.
  • Support corporate restructuring, support in providing tax related inputs for bids.

Tax Policy and Process Management:

  • Review and update tax policies and processes, being informed of tax issues and legislative changes.
  • Plan and oversee Group and local statutory audits regarding taxes.

Risk Management:

  • Identify tax risks and develop strategies to mitigate potential issues. Ensure robust internal controls over tax processes.

Tax Accounting and Reporting:

  • Ensure proper accounting recognition of current and deferred taxes in local ERP systems. Review withholding tax positions, income, and deferred taxes monthly.
  • Coordinate Group tax reporting requirements with entity finance and accounts teams, external tax authorities, and statutory auditors.

Transfer Pricing and Legal Entity Management:

  • Understand transfer pricing and disclosure requirements, updating local transfer pricing files yearly.
  • Assist in legal entity consolidation/reduction exercises, acquisitions, and restructuring.

Value Added Tax (VAT)

  • Periodic review of general ledger and other accounting records of VAT registered entities to ensure compliance with UAE VAT regulations.
  • Timely preparation and submission of VAT returns, including ensuring compliance with VAT regulations and obtaining appropriate approvals for submissions of VAT returns.
  • Responding to queries raised by the VAT authorities, including coordinating and providing appropriate supporting documents to the VAT authorities in a timely manner after obtaining due internal approvals.
  • Obtain and maintain detailed knowledge of UAE VAT regulations. Review new bulletins and notifications on a regular basis and assess the impact on the Group (including entities within the group) and prepare summaries to appraise the Group Board.

Data Accuracy, Documentation and Confidentiality

  • Identifies, investigates and rectifies routine errors and anomalies in data and reports so that the data can be relied upon.
  • Maintains files and information in a way that allows ease of retrieval of information and reports.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial information being handled.

External Job Description

Reporting and Communication

  • Reports to the Director of Accounting and Reporting on all work activities.
  • Liaises with various internal and external stakeholders to carry out responsibilities assigned.
  • Maintains and exhibits excellent working relationships with all Crescent staff.

Continuous Improvement of Position

  • Maintains professional and technical Accounting/Financial knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
  • Undertakes studies toward professional accounting qualification. Recommends subsequent actions to senior management.

Director, Accounting & Reporting – Crescent Petroleum Frequent/daily

Director, Corporate Affairs – Crescent Petroleum As appropriate

Minimum Educational, Technical Qualifications/Certifications Required

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Professional certification CA OR ACCA

Minimum Professional Experience Required

  • 8 to 10 years of relevant Taxation experience
  • Understanding of financial principles and tax accounting.
  • Experience in a similar industry or field is a plus
  • Analytical abilities to interpret tax laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of important compliance law:
  • UAE ESR
  • UAE VAT
  • UAE Corporate Tax
  • IFRS – Good understanding or working knowledge/experience is a must.

Special Requirements and Conditions

Undertaking study towards professional Accounting qualifications, as directed Systems skills:

  • S4/Hana (Preferable)
  • PowerBI (will be a plus)
