Incumbents are plastic and reconstructive surgeons who provide specialized plastic and reconstructive expertise to routine and complicated cases within their competency.

Responsibilities

1. Provides comprehensive and diligent surgical care to all assigned patients, including pre- and post-operative care and such surgical procedures as are within incumbent’s competence.
2. Performs professional duties at the Out-Patient Department.
3. Provides consultation services to physicians and other surgeons and specialists on in- or out-patient cases assigned to incumbent.
4. Assumes after-hours responsibility for the care of surgical cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized.
5. Refers to, or consults with, other surgeons on those cases that require more specialized diagnostic or therapeutic procedures as the need for their expertise arise.
6. Adheres to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Department and assures that work performed is in keeping with the established standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.
7. Consults with the anesthesiologist on the choice of anesthesia to be used.
8. Maintains complete and accurate records of all cases.
9. Participates in and contributes to in-service activities such as lectures, conferences and rounds and participates and contributes to all the quality assurance activities of the service (e.g. monthly mortality and morbidity conference, peer review, audit and chart review).
10. Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested by HOD.

Qualifications

1. Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship or equivalent, four years of residency in general surgery; certification by the American Board of Surgery, or Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, or equivalent qualifications.
2. Experience in traumatic surgery and in all phases of general surgery. At least three years of practice limited to surgery since certification.
3. Successful completion of formal 2-3 years training in a recognized plastic and reconstructive surgery program that includes maxillofacial, microsurgical, cleft lip and palate, head and neck cancer, trauma of the limbs and soft tissues, and in hand surgery; and Board specialty certification or eligibility in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, or equivalent certification.
4. Current license in country of origin with DHA license to practice as a Specialist Plastic Surgeon in Dubai, U.A.E.
5. Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
6. Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
7. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patient and supervisor.
