Job Description
The Pediatric Endocrinologist will provide specialized medical care for children and adolescents with a wide range of endocrine disorders. These may include growth disorders, diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2), thyroid disorders, puberty-related conditions, obesity, adrenal and pituitary disorders, and other hormone-related issues. The Pediatric Endocrinologist will work closely with pediatricians, other specialists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive care.
Responsibilities
- Clinical Care:
- Provide expert evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for children with endocrine conditions.
- Monitor and manage patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, growth disorders, and metabolic syndromes.
- Conduct physical examinations, laboratory investigations, and diagnostic imaging to assess endocrine health.
- Develop personalized treatment plans, including hormone therapies, nutritional counseling, and lifestyle management.
- Patient Management:
- Follow up with patients regularly to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and provide ongoing care.
- Provide counseling to patients and families regarding the management of endocrine disorders, lifestyle adjustments, and long-term care.
- Educate families on disease prevention, the importance of medication adherence, and the role of regular check-ups.
- Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Care:
- Work collaboratively with pediatricians, other pediatric specialists, dietitians, and psychologists to deliver holistic care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions to ensure coordinated and optimal care for patients.
- Clinical Teaching and Education:
- Train and mentor junior doctors, and medical students in pediatric endocrinology.
- Deliver educational seminars and workshops for healthcare professionals, fostering a learning environment within the department.
- Research and Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in clinical research related to pediatric endocrinology to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Stay up to date with the latest developments in the field, including new diagnostic tools, treatment protocols, and medical innovations.
- Quality and Safety:
- Adhere to the highest standards of medical practice and ensure patient safety at all times.
- Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with the hospital’s policies and legal requirements.
- Participate in departmental audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited medical school.
- Specialist qualification in Pediatric Endocrinology (e.g., Fellowship, Board Certification).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of post-specialization experience in pediatric endocrinology, with demonstrated expertise in managing a broad spectrum of endocrine disorders in children.
- Prior experience working in a multi-disciplinary healthcare environment, preferably within a hospital setting.
- Skills:
- Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to develop individualized treatment plans.
- In-depth knowledge of the pathophysiology, management, and treatment of pediatric endocrine diseases.
- Proficiency in using medical technologies and tools relevant to pediatric endocrinology.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical information to families and patients in an understandable manner.
- Fluency in English (Arabic language skills are an advantage).
- Licensure:
- Eligible for licensure with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DOH), or currently licensed as a Pediatric Endocrinologist in the UAE.
