Job Description
- Responsible for hospitalized patients whose condition requires medical care at the specialty level
- Day-to-day care for all Critical Care patients
- To evaluate, resuscitate and manage critically ill patients including those with vital organ and system failures.
- To use organ support and replacements system
- Should have expertise in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, invasive monitoring, renal therapy and mechanical ventilation
- To anticipate, assess and define problems in the critically ill, diagnose and implement a management plan- within the acceptable time frame.
- To communicate effectively and establish and foster relationships with internal and external clients
- Be compassionate, self-motivated and the ability to work under pressure for long hours.
- Need to manage the process of the end of life care. After working hours, when on-call, should be available for consultations as requested by doctors in other departments, in the intensive care areas, ER, and other critical care services
- Will serve as a major contributor to in-service training activities of the new and existing employees.
- Works under the general professional supervision of the Medical Director
- Performs professional duties of an intensivist in adherence to the approved Privileges.
- Participates in the reading of EKG’s (Electrocardio Gram) for critical care patients
- Participates in mortality/ morbidity review; Quality Assurance and Peer Reviews
- Participates in the Department meeting/ training and participates actively in various committee meetings as designated.
- Strictly observes organization’s medical regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, patient assessment and patient care.
- Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy
- Responsible for implementing & following standard policies and procedures as required by HAAD, EHSMS, JCI.
- Provides on-call emergency coverage for ICU and Emergency patients
- Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested
- To conduct anesthesia for routine and emergency surgical patients resuscitate as a team member and manage critically ill ventilated ICU patients.
Anesthesia
- To conduct assessment & re-assessment for all patients in the OPD, on admission, and prior to any procedure.
- Provides anesthesia with the full range of anesthetic agents
- Provides technical advice and guidance to nursing staff, other specialists and registrars, as required, and provides orientation/training in new techniques and procedures.
- Interviews patients scheduled for surgery to asses and develop an anesthesia care plan and to establish rapport and allay fear and apprehension.
- Manage patients during sedation and during the period of actual recovery from sedation and documents monitoring.
- Sees patients post operatively to evaluate recovery from anesthesia, to assess complications and make recommendation as indicated.
- Supervises and maintains appropriate documentation on the “controlled drugs” for the division in the Obstetrical operating theatres and main O.R.
- Organize a suitable call-schedule to provide a satisfactory anesthetic service to the hospital.
- Organize and direct Q.I. activities of this division, including preparing reports, etc. as required.
- Assists Chief Anesthesiologist In supervising the day-to-day anesthetic work.
- Keeps current with new procedures and techniques in the field of Anesthesia.
- Acts as Chief Anesthesiologist as assigned in his absence.
- Stands on-call duty as assigned by Chief Anesthesiologist, for emergency surgery, obstetrics and/or medical procedures.
- Performs duties as outlined above and such other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Chief Anesthesiologist.
- Takes active part in the teaching of junior anesthesiologists and other nursing staff.
- To conduct anesthesia services in appropriate dosages for all age groups in routine or emergency situations.
- Actively participate in CPR.
- Provides on-call emergency services of anesthesia services.
- Conduct labor analgesias.

Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited school of Medicine with an MBBS degree.
- Post-Graduate Masters degree or equivalent Fellowships approved by DOH.
- Minimum of three years experience in the practice as Critical Care Medicine post certification.
- Current licensure in country of origin and with DOH license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
- Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families.
