Job Description
- Provide consistent and high standard of clinical embryology and assisted reproduction service and care.
- Assist in running the IVF laboratory under the supervision of the laboratory director.
- Responsible for training and assisting in the supervision of junior and new staff members in accordance with the standard operating procedures.
- Participate in research and teaching where appropriate.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform clinical embryology and andrology services following appropriate competency assesment and in adherance to standard operating procedures
Main clinical duties:
- Semen analysis and preparation for in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and intrauterine insemination (IUI).
- Sperm cryopreservation and thawing
- Processing, cryopreservation and thawing of Epididymal sperm, testicular biopsies and Micro TESE
- Oocyte collection
- Assessment, insemination and injection of oocytes using IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)
- Oocytes and embryo handling and manipulation for assessment of fertilisation, cleavage and blastocyst development
- Embryo selection and embryo transfer
- Embryo cryopreservation and thawing
- Embryo biopsy (blastomere and trophectoderm) and tubing of cells for chromosomal screening and genetic diagnosis
- Gamete and embryo culture dish preparation
- Communication with patients on embryology treatment outcome
- Assist in overall laboratory maintenance (equipment maintenance, disinfection and validation )
- Cryostorage tanks maintenance and audit
- Participate in weekend, public holiday duty rota and on-call rota to support 24-hours alarm back up
Administrative responsibilities
- Contribute to the management and planning of clinical work schedule
- Procurement of laboratory products
- Ensure DOH and MOH regulatory and local compliance are met
- Accurate documentation of laboratory information into patients electronic database system
Quality management
- Comply with laboratory quality management procedures
- Perform quality control of laboratory equipment
- Monitor KPIs
- Assist with equipment and process validation
- Update standard operating procedures under the guidance of laboratory director
Communication, cooperation and continuous improvement
- Communicate effectively and in a professional manner with colleagues within and outside of the organisation
- Ability to manage time, stress and integrate into a multidisciplinary care team
- Deliver complex scientific information effectively
- Maintain positive working environment
- Strive to stay abreast of developments in the field of embryology
Qualification:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Applied Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Biological or Medical sciences with emphasis in Human Embryology from a recognized university
Desired: Post-graduate degree MSc or PhD in Assisted Reproductive Technology, Embryology, Biotechnology or Reproductive Medicine.
Experience:
Required : 8 years of hands-on clinical embryology experience
Desired : 2 years of leadership and management experience
