Job Description
The hospital is one of very few to encompass a Fetal Medicine Department along with a full fledged Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Level III, providing care for the most fragile newborns. This has established Danat Al Emarat as a regional referral center for women with high-risk pregnancies.
Role overview:
This role is responsible to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to childbearing women and their newborn(s) based on the Midwifery Scope of Practice as per DOH/DHA. This role also participates in the promotion of health and delivery of health education in relation to Midwifery services.
Responsibilities
- Acts as the lead care provider for women with uncomplicated pregnancies.
- Identifies pregnancy complications and refers to appropriate physicians.
- Provides routine antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, including risk assessment and appropriate actions.
- Promotes breastfeeding and adheres to ‘baby-friendly’ organizational initiatives.
- Assumes accountability for practice and avoids tasks beyond competence.
- Utilizes evidence-based practice in care provision and coordinates individualized care.
- Recognizes significant changes in patient conditions and takes appropriate action.
- Administers medications and monitors patient responses while reporting adverse drug reactions or errors.
- Demonstrates the ability to handle obstetric emergencies, such as post-partum hemorrhage and maternal collapse.
- Conducts spontaneous deliveries in cephalic presentation in the absence of a doctor.
Educational qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery or equivalent qualification (minimum 3 years’ course duration).
OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum 3 years’ course duration), successful completion of the National Exam, and Midwifery Certificate (1-year course duration).
- Experience Requirements
- 2 years’ experience post qualification as a Midwife in a maternity hospital or related setting.
