Job Description

1.PRESCRIPTION PROCESSING AND DISPENSING:

    • Prescriptions will be processed and dispensed in compliance with applicable HAAD laws, rules, and regulations.
    • Prescription labeling will provide an identifying number; date dispensed, patients’ name, name or initials of the pharmacist, the name, address, days of treatment and the name, strength and quantity of the pharmaceutical products, and instructions for use.
    • In the event the pharmacy receives a prescription for drug classified as ineffective, the pharmacist will contact the prescribing physician to change the prescription to an effective drug.
    • Review the patient’s health records and medication profile to assure appropriate drug therapy and to reduce the potential for complications and known adverse reactions.
    • Provide the prescribers suggested alternative drug therapy plans when any of the above risks are identified.
    • Individually counsel patients on the purpose and use of the prescribed medications, potential side effects, adverse reactions, and other related factors.

    2.SUPERVISION OF ASSIGNED STAFF:

      • Oversee the activities delegated to and/or assigned to the Pharmacy Technician/trainee.
      • Maintains strict confidentiality.
      • Responsible for operations within the department to ensure that services are provided in a manner which meets all applicable regulatory licensure and accrediting regulations.
      • Responsible for positive representation of facility and department services.
      • Exemplifies personal conduct style which is reflected in an appropriate role.
      • Upholds established professional standards.
      • Maintains a cooperative relationship with employees, medical staff, and others.
      • Implement Quality Assurance measures in appropriate areas.
      • Adheres to and supports facility policies, programs and activities.
      • Responsible for communication within the Pharmacy department and with other NMC Royal Family Medical Centre departments to ensure effective operations.
      • Present a professional, caring image for the NMC Royal Family Medical Centre and its programs.
      • Maintain a cooperative relationship with other NMC Royal Family Medical Centre staff and co-workers.
      • Exceptional Customer service is a must.
      • Responsible for personal development to ensure current knowledge in the profession.
      • Perform any other job-related duties as specified by supervisor.
      • Attend meetings and in-services and any other events as specified by immediate supervisor.
      • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment.

      3.IP PRESCRIPTIONS/MAR FORMS:

        • The pharmacist should know how to read the MAR form
        • Dispenses IP medicines based on MAR form
        • Review mar form and check for any drug interaction or allergies.
        • Signature of pharmacist who dispenses medication is important on MAR form is important

          • Participate in the answering enquiry of medicine, acting in accordance with HAAD standards of practice

          6.Other Responsibilities

            • Follow up with healthcare professionals within the facility for reporting AR/ME & AEFI & send any clarification, reconciliation to HAAD when necessary
            • Identify and implement practices to improve the Pharmacovigilance reporting to HAAD
            • Educate healthcare professionals on the importance and methods of reporting Adverse Reactions (AR), Medication Errors (ME) and adverse events following immunization (AEFI) to HAAD Pharmacovigilance program
            • Receive reports on the reporting status of the facility
            • Receive emails of alert/recall circulars and disseminate them to healthcare professionals and appropriate personnel within the facility
            • To comply with the NMC Royal Family Medical Centre OSH Roles and Responsibilities applicable AD OSHMS Standards and applicable Legal Requirements.
            • Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality in maintaining critical and sensitive information, records, and reports
            • Actively participate in the Medical Centre’s on-going Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Programs and other In-Service Training Programs
            • Act as a translator if needed
            • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Head of Department

            Qualifications

            • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy/Equivalent
            • Preferred certificate or post graduate diploma

            At least 3 years’ experience in Pharmacy or similar organization
