Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:   Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates Nursing education and training program activities.  Serves as the primary resource and consultant on nursing educational practice and policy interpretation. Evaluates current systems and skills of nursing staff to determine the educational and training needs. Develops various policies and procedures in coordination with head nurses to upgrade nursing standards.

2.0. SCOPE:  Responsible in collaboration with Nursing Supervisor and head nurses for the development of nursing educational programs and direction of training activities to maintain a supportive environment within which the nursing staff can expand their knowledge, skills, and competency thus improving the quality of patient care.  Organizes personnel to attend in-service and educational activities and allocates material resources.  Liaises with the Academic Affairs Directorate to maintain educational resources.

PRINCIPAL CONTACTS:   In frequent contact with nursing leadership, Academic department, nursing staff in all levels, Head of Department, Physicians, and allied health care practitioners to exchange information and schedule of trainings.  Occasionally in touch with community or professional groups for networking.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Participates in the development of nursing service departmental and educational objectives, policies and standards.
  • Formulates a plan for the utilization of nursing education personnel and budgetary requirements needed for acquisition of materials to implement nursing education programs.
  • Develops updates and coordinates the Nursing Services Educational programs and developmental activities for nursing service personnel and other health professionals.
  • Conducts the evaluation of nursing education personnel to assure conformance with nursing policies and procedures.
  • Directs the evaluation of nursing education programs to assure conformance with nursing policies and procedures.
  • Directs the maintenance of department level education and training program records, reports and resources.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of sound relationships with community and professional groups in regard to new nursing programs.
  • Teaches selected course lectures and workshops.
  • Coordinates efforts with medical/health education function.
  • Directs monitors and serves as a resource for design, direction and implementation of research projects, special studies, and quality improvement. Develops and evaluates the orientation of newly hired nursing education instructors.
  • Provides education and administrative input in development and review of department standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates education programs as needs are identified in quality monitoring and improvement programs.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by the Nursing Director.
  • Keeps current with nursing educational programs, materials and methods, and recommends implementing the same to those applicable.

Other functions:

  • Represents Nursing Education Unit in internal or external meetings as designated by the Nursing Director.
  • Participates actively in hospital educational activities and membership in educational organizations.
  • Evaluates staff assisting Code Blue to determine need for further CPR training
  • Coordinates with Saudi Heart Association for conducting BCLS and ACLS trainings.
  • 4.2.5.  Performs other duties as required by the Nursing Director to effect efficient services.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Education.  Bachelor degree in Nursing or related field and or education, with a masters in Nursing or Nursing Education are preferred.
  • Experience:  Five years clinical nursing experience post registration, with 5 years applied nursing education methodology, curriculum development and instructional technology for various levels; and 3 years administration which could be concurrent with above roles.
  • Knowledge/Skills:  With demonstrated competency in nursing theories and practices appropriately applicable to nursing in-service orientation and continuing education. With clinical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • License:  A Registered Nurse and licensed BLS/ALS Provider and Instructor preferred.
  • Languages:  Proficiency in English and preferred Arabic.
