Position Summary
To work in rota system enabling coverage of the andrology laboratory from Sunday to Thursday. Additional working hours may be required to cover unit meetings, weekends, and public holidays. It is essential for all lab staff to develop a strong sense of responsibility towards their work and patients, while at the same time, co-operating and communicating with all other staff to produce the highest possible standards of laboratory care so that patients may expect optimal clinical outcome of treatment.
Summary of Main Duties
- To carry out andrology laboratory-based aspects of fertility investigation and treatment in order to provide a comprehensive service to clients.
- Report to lab director all data on daily basis and out of range results.
- To protect all confidential information concerning clients obtained in the course of professional practice and make the disclosures only with consent.
- To keep up to date, clear records of all procedures.
- To ensure that all health and safety policies are read, understood and complied with.
- To be familiar with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- To perform laboratory-based procedures to agreed protocols.
- To perform media and equipment preparation for all investigations and treatment procedures including but not limited to sperm preparation, oocyte retrieval, insemination, embryo culture, PESA, TeSA, sperm freezing, embryo/ Oocytes cryopreservation and thawing and embryo transfer.
- To prepare sperm from either fresh or frozen ejaculate for insemination for either IUI, IVF, GIFT, ZIFT or ICSI procedures.
- To participate in andrology services, i.e., performing semen analyses, anti-sperm antibody testing and sperm freezing.
- To create appropriate dish labels and stickers according to procedure.
- To label all samples clearly and accurately.
- To keep accurate written records of all laboratory procedures.
- To check lab items stock keep lab items available for use all the time.
- Record All Batch Number on Fertiproof System.
- Data Entry For Statistics.
- To take responsibility in the evident of liquid nitrogen alarm sounding to top up liquid nitrogen storage tanks or any other alarm in lab and report to lab director.
- To participate in a shift system of work to cover weekend and public holidays workload.
