GEMS Wellington Academy, Silicon Oasis is seeking an experienced Director of IB Programmes. The post commencing September 2025. 

Job Summary:

The Director of IB Programmes’ lead responsibility is for the overall administration, coordination, and management of the IBDP within the IB Post-16. This role involves ensuring the successful implementation of the IBDP curriculum, program development, and supporting students and teachers throughout the program. The Director of Programmes plays a vital role in complying with the ethos and mission of the IB, maintaining the program’s integrity, and facilitating the growth of the IBDP and IBCP within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Programme Administration:

  1. Oversee all aspects of the IBDP, including curriculum planning, assessment, student registration and uploading of internal assessments.
  2. Coordinate and communicate with IBDP teachers re: curriculum changes, training, resources and networking opportunities.
  3. Manage the IB budget and allocate resources efficiently.

Curriculum and Programme Development:

  1. Collaborate with faculty and educational leaders to ensure IBDP aligns
  2. with the school’s mission and educational goals.
  3. Facilitate ongoing curriculum development and updates to meet IB standards.
  4. Organise professional development opportunities for IB teachers to stay updated on best practices.
  5. Continue the growth of IB student numbers at WSO whilst retaining the school’s place in the top ten UAE and top 100 IBDP schools.

Student Support:

  1. Assist students in selecting appropriate courses and provide guidance on meeting IB requirements.
  2. Monitor students’ academic progress, ensuring they meet IB standards and expectations, and provide support and intervention for cause for concern students.
  3. Support students in their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), TOK (Theory of Knowledge) and Extended Essay requirements.

Teacher Support:

  1. Provide guidance and resources to IB teachers to enhance the quality of instruction.
  2. Foster a collaborative and supportive environment among faculty.
  3. Ensure teachers are aware of and adhere to IB guidelines and policies.
  4. Work with the T&L team to ensure teaching standards in IB lesson are consistently of a high level.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  1. Coordinate and oversee IBDP assessments, including internal and external examinations.
  2. Maintain accurate records of student assessments and grades.
  3. Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure a fair and consistent moderation process.

Necessary Resources and Support: To successfully execute the role of IBDP Coordinator, the following resources and support are be provided:

  1. Access to IB resources: Access to Managebac, InThinking, Kognity, Turnitin, My IB, IBIS, IB Exchange, curriculum guides, assessment materials, and documentation.
  2. Professional Development: Opportunities for ongoing training and professional development related to IB curricula.
  3. Administrative Support: Administrative assistance for tasks such as scheduling, record-keeping, registration, uploading internal assessments and communication.
  4. Technology and Facilities: Access to technology and facilities necessary for IBDP administration, including exam spaces and IT support.
  5. Budget Allocation: Adequate budget allocation for IBDP-related expenses, including teacher training and program development.
  6. Organisational Position for Curriculum and Program Development: The Director of IB Programmes line manages the TOK, EE & CAS Coordinators and the IBCP Coordinator.
  7. They work in collaboration with the Heads of Year, Heads of Departments and Key Stage 5
  8. Coordinators which underscores influence in terms of curriculum and program development.
  9. This will involve participation in curriculum committees, Post 16 meetings, representation in departmental meetings, and direct communication with the school’s senior leadership team.

In summary, the IB Director of Programmes plays a crucial role in the successful implementation and growth of the IB within the school or institution. The Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinator is a key leadership position at WSO and is responsible for the coordination and development of the IB programme in Year 12 and 13.
