Job Description
The Generalist Practitioner Physician is responsible for leading and supervising the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care; effectively and efficiently diagnosing, managing and treating all patients placed under the post holder’s care. The Generalist Practitioner Physician is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within his or her specialty and to provide leadership and training for junior medical staff.
Key responsibilities of the role
Supports, implements, and follows Reem Hospital’s departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures
Ensures comprehensive documentation in the Medical Record to accurately reflect the patient’s diagnosis and treatment to enable good clinical practice and optimal, accurate patient billing
General accountability for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of general health problems.
Deliver best-in-class medical services for Inpatients
Directs nurses in procedures for preoperative and postoperative care such as administering sedatives, prescribing diets, and preparing operative area of patients
Examines patients and determines x-ray examinations and clinical laboratory tests required
Examine patients, perform and interpret diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical condition and determine diagnosis
Administers and prescribes such conservative measures of treatment as antibiotics, drugs, and compresses
Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients and families
Monitor patient’s condition and progress and re-evaluate treatments as necessary
Collect record and maintain patient information such as medical history reports and examination results
Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary
Take on-call duty outside of scheduled working hours
Perform other related duties as assigned

Helps lead quality improvement within the Department
Facilitates good cross-functional communication to optimize patient care
Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practice
Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents
Fosters a culture of learning, development and continuous improvement across the Department by:
Promoting and assisting in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff
Facilitating the provision of essential training relevant to clinical staff in the specialty
Showing commitment to Continued Medical Education (CME)
Promotes and participates in clinical research and publication
Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry
Compliance guidelines
Complying consistently with facility policies, procedures and practices and ensuring alignment with Reem Hospital policies
Completing and maintaining regulatory requirements including: licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames
Maintaining confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of role in accordance with Reem Hospital policy
Communicates clearly with the patient and with the permission of the patient, their family, on all aspects of the patient’s condition and treatment
Rounds on the patient on a regular basis that considers the patient’s condition and good clinical practice
Minimizes patient waiting time to the extent that this is practicable. Seeks to alert the patient in advance if a committed time is delayed
Must be compassionate and courteous at all times
Adhering to requirements of the Occupational Health and safety guidelines and infection control guidelines
Understanding and adhering to emergency preparedness plans/policies
Participates in medical conferences and meetings inside and outside of Reem Hospital
Maintains CME requirements
Develop a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance from the medical staff
Actively participate in Hospital committees and task forces as assigned by the Head of Department
Maintains good relationship with the other departments and colleagues
Continuously adhere to Reem Hospital Dress and Grooming Policy for medical professionals
Qualifications, Certifications and Experience
Required:
Qualification from Tier 1 OR Qualification from Tier 2
Current national license or equivalent
Certified proof of yearly CME

Tier 1: NLT 2 years relevant experience as a General Practitioner or equivalent post board certification.
Tier 2: NLT 4 years full-time employment as a General Practitioner or equivalent post board certification (includes years in fellowship training) in internationally accredited institute.

Clinical Fellowship training following primary specialty board may substitute for experience as follows:
Each year of clinical fellowship is counted as two years of clinical
experience
Only applicable to clinical subspecialty fellowship in the following countries (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, and USA) or HAAD accredited fellowship programs.

Physical requirements
Potential of working irregular hours including on-call hours.
Typical physical demands include: a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, extensive sitting and walking, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout the facility and lift up to 13 kgs.
In addition must be able to assist in evacuation procedures by being able to assist in lifting, pushing and moving patients, medical equipment and supplies if required in emergency situations.
