Job Description

GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail is part of the GEMS Education network of schools, providing a premium education to children from Nursery to Year 13. 

 The role of Assistant Principal requires a skill set that includes exceptional leadership, outstanding communication, and the ability to positively influence both staff and students. The successful candidate will lead a high-performing Sixth Form team, ensuring that outcomes and opportunities are fully maximised for all students. 

As a member of the Secondary Senior Leadership Team, the Assistant Principal is responsible for fostering a culture of success and innovation, inspiring students to be positive role models within the wider school community. 

 While the primary focus will be on Key Stage 3, all senior leaders are expected to contribute to the holistic development of the Academy as part of a high-performing leadership team. 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement the whole-school student culture experience strategy across Key Stage 3, ensuring alignment with broader school values, ethos and policy. 
  • Uphold a culture of positive student behaviour towards academic success, in line with the secondary behaviour policy.  
  • Oversee the day-to-day pastoral care of KS3 students, ensuring a positive and inclusive environment that supports their development.
  • Enure smooth transitions from KS2 to KS3 by coordinating transition events, curriculum continuity, and pastoral
  • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning in Key Stage 3, supporting leaders to ensure curriculum delivery meets student needs. 
  • Lead observation and Internal Quality Assurance cycles to maintain high teaching and learning standards. 
  • Provide coaching and support to staff, fostering a culture of continuous professional growth. 

Skills

Candidates should have experience at Middle or Senior Leadership level and be able to demonstrate a clear impact on student outcomes and staff development. 

A degree and PGCE (or equivalent) are required, together with a leadership qualification such as NPQSL being desirable.
